We have a Wii. I like the boxing – I can work up a sweat and have some fun. I think I might be getting bigger biceps at the same time. In the game, I have skills; using them, I can win. I’m not very quick, so I can usually only land a 1-2 punch (as opposed to pop-pop-POW! – Cinderella Man). So it takes me 4 knock-downs to knock out a pro opponent. If I could deliver a pop-pop-POW! I might get a knockout much quicker.
If I get impatient, I get beat. – I know when to strike – cues the game gives me. And I know what punches to throw. But it takes time. If I try to hurry things up, I get beat up.
Trying to learn new skills – I get beat up, but can still win. I can try new things and work to improve my techniques. But I have to balance this with the tried-and-true if I want to win a bout. If I don’t try, then the game will get boring and I’ll not get my workout.
Isn’t this just like life? We get impatient, taking shortcuts – we get beat up. We have to use the skills and abilities God has given us, then we can be effective. But we also have to stretch, to learn new things.
Just some thoughts.
